How Heat May Affect Male Infertility

You’ve probably heard that wearing tight underwear can be bad for your fertility. The fact is that heat has a negative impact on male fertility, so the advice to avoid tighty whities is essentially right. High temperatures have an effect on sperm health, specifically sperm motility (movement), which makes it harder for sperm to fertilize an egg. This is why the testicles are located away from the body; sperm should be about 4 degrees cooler than the average body temperature.

Avoid common sources of heat

If you are trying to conceive, it’s a good idea to avoid the most common sources of undue heat. First of all, make sure that your underwear and pants are not tight fitting. Looser clothing provides your testicles space to self-regulate their temperature. It’s also a good idea to limit time in hot tubs, saunas, or baths. If you are outdoors in the hot weather, do your best to take frequent breaks to cool down. The same applies to sitting. Make sure to get up, stretch, and move around often. If you are overweight, excess fat in the scrotum area may also negatively impact your fertility. Losing weight can help you to keep your body temperature at a healthy level.

Plan ahead

Sperm take about 70 days, or more than 3 months, to mature. This means that if you are often exposed to sources of heat, or if you have recently been sick with a high fever, it will take a while for your sperm to recover to full motility. If you are trying to conceive, try to plan ahead and start avoiding sources of heat early. This will help you and your partner in your efforts to conceive. Who doesn’t love a good nap? The good news is, if you’re trying to conceive, you now have a good excuse to take a few naps, and, more generally, get plenty of sleep. Your body needs lots of rest to be at its healthy best and to keep hormone levels balanced. If you’re trying to get pregnant, getting enough sleep becomes particularly important.

Sleep is linked to your hormones and ovulation cycle

Sleep doesn’t just make you feel rested; it’s connected to many parts of your body, including your hormones. One particularly important hormone linked to sleep is leptin, a hormone that helps to regulate ovulation. Women who don’t get enough sleep have lower leptin levels, which can lead to an irregular menstrual cycle.

Sleep helps to reduce stress

You probably already know that stress can affect your fertility. More specifically, stress leads to higher levels of the hormones cortisol and adrenocortocotropic, which interfere with a normal fertility cycle. When you’re trying to conceive, it’s important that you take steps to reduce anxiety and stress. Getting enough sleep is paramount to keeping stress levels down. And if you’re having a stressful day, you can use an afternoon nap to help you relax!

Napping in moderation

Napping can be a great way to give your body some extra rest and relax, but the most important thing your body needs to be rested is a regular sleep schedule. To accomplish this, you should aim to sleep for between 7 and 9 hours every night, and try to go to bed and wake up at about the same time every day. This puts your body in synch with its circadian rhythm, a natural response your body has to the patterns of day and night. If you take long naps and then don’t feel sleepy at night, you may be throwing off your circadian rhythm. To avoid this, keep your naps under 45 minutes as a general rule.

Getting Pregnant When Taking Clomid

Are You Trying to Get Pregnant on Clomid?

Clomid is one of the most popular infertility treatments available. It works by inducing ovulation, which can be a major help in trying to conceive for women who have irregular menstruation. If you’re taking Clomid the following tips can help make the most of the increased chances of get pregnant quickly.

Use Ovulation Tests

Clomid makes your ovulation cycle more regular, but we advise not depending on it entirely. Using an ovulation predictor to determine exactly when you’re ovulating is a great idea. Start using the predictor on day 10 of your cycle (7 days after taking Clomid). You can also use temperature checking or another method that works for you. The goal is to narrow down when you’re ovulating as accurately as possible to find your most fertile days to focus your conception efforts.

Have sex frequently, but not too frequently

When you’re taking Clomid starting on day 3 of your cycle, your fertility window is typically between days 7 through 16 of your cycle. You want to be having sex regularly throughout those days, but that doesn’t necessarily mean having sex every day. A high sperm count is just as important as ovulation when trying to conceive. Having sex too often can deplete a man’s supply. As a general rule, aim to have sex every other day. The exception is when you’re ovulating. Use your ovulation predictor, and when it says you’re ovulating, have sex two days in a row. That way, you can maximize your window.

Consider other options

Remember that Clomid is only meant for women who have irregular or failed ovulation. If you and your partner have other fertility problems, Clomid may not be able to fix them. Most people who get pregnant using Clomid conceive within their first three or four cycles. If Clomid isn’t working for you, talk to your doctor about other potential infertility treatments.

When to Take a Pregnancy test for Optimal Results

Getting pregnant is the happiest and a life-turning point for a woman. Knowing that you are going to welcome a little baby into your life is not only overwhelming but somewhat stressing.

For majority of women, the decision when to take a pregnancy test is the main cause of anxiety while you wait to hear the news. If you think that you may be pregnant, you would want to check it as soon as possible. But it is essential to know how these pregnancy tests work.

When you are pregnant

In the initial days of the pregnancy, fetus produces a hormone Human Chorionic Gondotrophin normally called hCG. This hormone can be detected in your blood and urine if you are pregnant. As the pregnancy progresses, the levels of hCG increases. It peaks around 8-11 weeks before it drops to a lower level during the 12-16 weeks.

According to study some pregnancy tests seem to have a poor detection limit for hCG than others. Therefore it is suggested for best results to take the pregnancy test early in the morning as hCG levels are at their highest at that time and after a night of sleeping the urine is more concentrated.

You need to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully that come with the test. This is required as the procedures could vary and affect your result. Excessive fluid intake could dilute hCG that could make the result difficult to read.

Best Time to Take a Pregnancy test

Sometimes you may feel like taking a test early because you feel the signs that you might have conceived. The most popular first pregnancy signs are cramps, tender breasts, nausea, food aversions, exhaustion, frequent urination and missed period.  Even if you feel one or several of these signs, the best time to take a pregnancy test is after your period is late. This assists you from getting false negative or false positive results.

A number of home pregnancy tests claim to provide 99% accuracy on pregnancy results on the first day after you have missed your period. But research shows that most home pregnancy tests do not spot pregnancy that early. Even if they do, results tend to be almost nonexistent or so faint it can be misunderstood easily. And according to research and medical experts, it is recommended to wait until a week to get the optimal results.

Waiting for seven days after you have missed your period gives you the best pregnancy result. If you can wait a week after missing your period, most of the pregnancy tests will give you an accurate answer.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is characterized by an imbalance of hormones, which prevents normal ovulation. Of course, without the release of eggs, it’s impossible to become pregnant. A doctor can prescribe medication that will help your body to ovulate regularly in case if you are diagnosed with PCOS.

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) occurs when the reproductive organs are infected. This can be the result of sexually transmitted diseases, abortion, or surgery. The scarred organs can block the fallopian tubes, preventing sperm from reaching the egg. Depending on the severity of PID, it can be treated with antibiotics or surgery.

Uterine Fibroids

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths of tissue in the uterus. Most women have them at some point, and when they are small, they are not harmful. However, if they are large and numerous, they may interfere with conception and a healthy pregnancy. Doctors can typically detect uterine fibroids during a normal pelvic exam. If you have fibroids that are causing infertility, you can have them removed through a non-invasive procedure.

Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a disorder in which the endometrium, the lining of the uterus, attaches to places outside the uterus. During menstruation, this lining sheds but cannot exit the body. This can be painful and cause fertility problems. Fortunately, endometriosis can be treated by either medication or surgery.

It’s no secret that age affects your fertility. Women have a limited number of eggs, and they will eventually slow down and ultimately stop. Each woman’s body is different, making it hard to predict exactly how your fertility will change over time. However, there are some patterns that can make it easier for you to plan for your family.

Your 20s

In your 20s, barring any health problems, you are in your peak fertility. For most women, menstruation in their 20s is very regular. Of course, many women in their 20s are not ready to have a baby and choose to use contraceptives. If you are taking hormonal birth control, you will need to give your ovulation cycle time to reestablish its normal cycle.

30-35

In general, fertility begins to decline around age 30 to 32. At the age of 30, the average woman’s chance of conceiving in a month is about 20%

35

Around the age of 35, your fertility begins to decline more quickly. Women over the age of 35 are also more likely to have stillbirths, miscarriages, and other pregnancy complications. If you are ready to start a family, the best time to conceive is before the age of 35.

40 and older

By the age of 40, most women have a significantly harder time conceiving. Only about 40% of women who hope to get pregnant after 40 are able to do so. However, if you are over 40 and have decided to have a baby (or another baby), there is still hope. Advanced in fertility treatments and in vitro fertilization are making it increasingly possible for women over the age of 35 to have healthy babies.

Soft Drinks and Fertility

When you are trying to conceive, you should be paying more attention to your diet. One key item to cut out is soft drinks. Drinking soda, particularly if you have it often, can have detrimental effects on your fertility and your health in general. Removing it from your diet is an easy way to improve your health and your fertility.

Sugar

Soft drinks contain more sugar than almost anything else you can eat. A single can contains approximately 10 teaspoons of sugar. This much sugar leads to fluctuations in your blood sugar and hormones. It is also linked to diabetes, obesity, and poor dental health. Drinking so much sugar is a sure way to undermine your general health and your fertility.

Aspertame

Unfortunately, switching to diet soda won’t solve the problem. Diet sodas use aspartame as a sweetener, and aspartame is connected with a number of health problems. Specifically related to fertility and pregnancy, aspartame appears to be linked to infertility and miscarriages.

Obesity

To give yourself the best changes of conceiving and giving birth to a healthy baby, it’s important to be at a healthy weight. If you are overweight or obese, cutting out soft drinks is one of the simplest ways to cut down on excess calories and sugar. You can trade in all of the calories in your daily soda for nutrient-rich foods instead.

Caffeine

The effects of caffeine on fertility are a matter of debate, but a number of studies have suggested that caffeine may lead to irregular hormone levels, which affects your ovulation cycle. Many women limit or entirely cut out caffeine during their pregnancies. Don’t forget that many sodas, such as cola, include caffeine.

How to get pregnant with twins

There are many couples who are wondering how to get pregnant with twins. Natural twins are fairly rare. Without in vitro fertilization, your chances of having twins are about 3%. A lot of the factors that make twins more likely are things you can’t change, such as your family history and your race. Women who are over 35, of African descent, and tall are more likely to have twins naturally. However, there are some things you can do to improve your odds if you want to have twins.

 

Increase your intake of folic acid

A few studies have found that women who have a higher level of folic acid (vitamin B9) have a higher chance of conceiving twins. The best way to up your levels is to take a folic acid supplement. Folic acid is also essential for preventing neural tube defects such as spina bifida, so it’s a good idea to take it regularly while you are trying to conceive anyway.

 

Eat more sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes and yams are believed to increase your chances of conceiving multiples (twins, trips, or even more). You can also try cassava, an African variant of the vegetable. Some people believe cassava increases the changes of hyperovulation, when two eggs come down instead of one during ovulation.

 

Keep breastfeeding

If you already have a baby, you may want to continue breastfeeding. At least one study has shown that women who conceive while breastfeeding are more likely to have twins. Some women, on the other hand, do not ovulate while breastfeeding. If this is the case for you, you may need to stop breast feeding in order to resume your normal menstrual cycle.

 

Eat dairy

Women who eat and drink dairy products are said to be more likely to conceive twins. This may be a result of the nutrients in milk and other dairy products. Or it may be a result of growth hormones used in cows. You may want to consult with your doctor about what level of dairy consumption is healthy.
